Adult Size: ≈ 3.5"

 

Venom:  Similar to a hornet sting with slight swelling and itching.

 

Natural Origins: Native to the Nearctic region, the Southern half of California and Arizona.

 

Temperature: 80°F - 100°F  during the day*, and 70°F-80°F at night. Please avoid the use of heat pads as many Scorpions burrow to get out of the heat. * These temperatures replicate their natural environment. With such high temperatures, they often stay burrowed in the day to escape the drastic heat and come out at night to hunt and forage.

 

Humidity: 50%

 

Habitat: Living in open desert/dunes, Dune Scorpians spend most of their time in burrows dug in the sand. Coming out at night to hunt. They are solitary animals meaning keeping multiple in one enclosure can cause unnecessary stress and even cannibalism.

 

Substrate: Excavator clay and Sand mixture with a minimum depth of 5in.

 

Diet: 

       Crickets, Mealworms, Superworms, Dubia, Isopods.

 

Sexing: When viewing the underside of a scorpion you will see pectines right after their last set of legs. Males' pectines will be dramatically larger than those of females.

 

Extra Info. : All Scorpians fluoresce under UV light, due to a layer of hyaline, a special type of cartilage, in their exoskeleton
